Coverage

Approximately 30m² per litre with one coat, depending on the condition, species and absorbency of the timber.

A 500ml can therefore provides approximately 15m² coverage per coat under suitable conditions.

Preparation

The wooden surface must be clean, dry and frost-free, with a maximum wood moisture content of 18%.

Remove dirt, grease and contamination before application. Old paint, varnish and lacquer coatings must be completely removed.

If sanding is required, remove all sanding dust thoroughly before applying TopOil.

How to Use

TopOil is supplied ready to use and should not be thinned. Stir thoroughly before and during application.

Apply the first coat thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain using an Osmo Flat Brush, Hand Pad or Microfibre Roller. Avoid applying excessive amounts of product.

Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 8–10 hours, ensuring good ventilation throughout the drying period.

Apply the second coat thinly using a suitable cloth or application pad and allow approximately 8–10 hours drying time with good ventilation.

For renovations, one thin coat applied to a clean and dry existing TopOil surface is normally sufficient.

Dilution

Do not dilute. Osmo TopOil is supplied ready to use. Stir thoroughly before and during application.

Curing

Although the surface dries between coats in approximately 8–10 hours, the finish continues to cure after application.

Osmo advises that TopOil takes approximately 2–3 weeks to fully cure. During this period, avoid covering the surface and take additional care to prevent damage or staining.

Cleaning & Maintenance

For regular cleaning, use Osmo Spray Cleaner or another Osmo-recommended maintenance product.

Once the finish has fully cured, Osmo Wash and Care can also be used where appropriate.

Avoid washing-up liquid, general-purpose cleaners, bleach, bicarbonate of soda and other aggressive household cleaning products, as these can damage or discolour the oil-wax finish.

When signs of wear become visible, the surface can normally be cleaned and given a single thin maintenance coat without completely sanding back the existing finish.

Wood Suitability

TopOil is suitable for many common timber species including:

• Oak

• Douglas Fir
• Birch
• Larch

For dense or ingredient-rich hardwoods such as Teak, Iroko, Mahogany, Sapele, Wenge and Merbau, Osmo recommends Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin instead.

Always carry out a trial application when treating an unfamiliar timber.
