Description
Bona Mix and Fill is specifically designed to be mixed with wood dust to create a natural looking wood filler. Fills cracks, splits and gaps and looks more like the surrounding wood than traditional wood fillers. It can be easily sanded, stained and finished for a more natural-looking repair.
Please Note: This filler can only be used when mixed with wood dust from sanding, ideally from the project at hand. It cannot be used as a stand-alone clear filler.
- Also available: Bona Mix and Fill Plus for lighter coloured wood types and for gaps up to 3mm wide
- Alternatively, try Bona Gap Master for filling long, linear gaps between floor boards and skirting boards
Preparation
Surfaces to be repaired must be clean, dry and free from contaminates and surface coatings.
New Wood
- New wood should be sanded with a 100-120 grit sandpaper
- Collect the sanding dust for mixing with the Bona Mix and Fill
- Ensure that areas to be filled are clean and dust free before filling
- Indents may need scoring or coarse sanding to provide a key for the filler to adhere to the wood
Old Wood
- Old wood should be sanded back to clean, bare wood.
- Sanding dust from the first sanding, that may contain varnish, wax or oil should be discarded
- Once all top coatings have been removed, re-sand with 100-120 grit sandpaper and retain the sanding dust
- Ensure that areas to be filled are clean and dust free before filling
- Indents may need scoring or coarse sanding to provide a key for the filler to adhere to the wood
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
- Bona Mix and Fill should be mixed with the retained sanding dust from the job at hand to a putty-like texture suitable for filling the joint or split in the wood
- The filler mix can then be easily applied using a Bona Flat Bladed Trowel
- Once dried, sand back the repaired area to a flat surface using a 100 to 120 grit abrasive
